Crown Colony Golf & Country Club
A Friend of the
Environment
|
A Great White
Heron stalks the edge of the lake looking for its
morning meal. A Red-shouldered Hawk sounds its
plaintive cry looking for a mate. A pair of Bald
Eagles rest in a tall pine before continuing their
long journey. These are some of the sights and
sounds you will encounter while at Crown Colony.

| Crown Colony has
made a commitment to managing the golf course with
wildlife and the environment in mind. This began
with the planning and construction of the property.
As the developer, Centex Homes had the foresight to
build the golf course with conservation in mind.
This is evident by the many ornamental grass beds,
preserves, and littoral shelves at the edges of the
lakes which all provide habitat for birds and other
wildlife. Centex also chose to grass the golf course
with Seashore Paspalum which requires less water and
nitrogen than other alternatives |

| At the heart of our environmental stewardship is our
certification in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System
(ACSS), an international program administered by Audubon
International, designed to help landowners preserve and
enhance the environmental quality of their property. We are
involved in projects which include placing nesting boxes for
cavity-nesting birds such as Bluebirds and Red-bellied
Woodpeckers; utilizing integrated pest management techniques
to reduce the need for pesticides; conserving water and
maintaining food and cover for wildlife. We have been able
to blend the need for residential and recreational
activities while still maintaining and enhancing habitat for
wildlife for our families to enjoy – now, and in the future. |
